Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Meets with Members of the Program Council of the National Convention on the European Union

On February 11, a meeting was held between the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, and members of the Program Council of the National Convention on the EU. This discussion continued ongoing and productive communication between the Commissioner and civil society.

The meeting addressed the current institutional and social crisis in Serbia, while NCEU members emphasizing the need to pay special attention to hate speech in the public sphere, which fuels further tensions. They also stressed that the ongoing campaign of intimidation and discrediting of civil society representatives is unacceptable for a country aspiring to EU membership.

In this context, both the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the National Convention will continue to act in accordance with their mandates, recognizing that protection against discrimination is a fundamental principle of the European Union—one that Serbia must uphold uncompromisingly in its accession process.
